The No. 64 car started life as a 1987 Oldsmobile Cutlass Salon. We don't
know enough about Oldsmobiles to guess what the term "Salon" indicates. But
it sounds luxurious. But long gone are any creature comforts.
We gutted the interior, installed a roll cage, fuel cell, racing seat and
harnesses. We originally ran the Olds 307 motor, which, by all accounts
should never be allowed closer to a racetrack than the parking lot.
We ran the first motor into the ground, and bought another 307 that was sold
to us as a 403. It didn't want to rev past 4000 rpm.
Finally, we joined the ranks of Street Stockers running small block Chevy
motors. At the time of this writing, the engine is being installed with just
a few races left in the season.
Let's hope all the trouble pays off.
